Aerial & Ground Cinematographer

β€œRob showed up early, always prepared for a particular days’ shoot, and he stayed late, packing up equipment, taking care of what other had left undone...He was indefatigable, utterly dependable, highly capable, strong, and right-minded.”
— Chris White, Director
β€œEvery set should be lucky enough to have at least one Rob around. He was tireless, dedicated, fun to work with, and despite some ridiculously difficult days, I never heard him complain.”
— Kyle Ham, Producer/Director

I’ve been lucky to work on movies, TV series, and commercials worldwide. My journey in cinematography began in high school, where I discovered my passion for video work. After training in the United States film industry, I transitioned into working in the camera department in South Africa as a 1st AC/Focus Puller. This led to opportunities to work on helicopter jobs and ultimately sparked my passion for drone cinematography. It was the perfect blend of technical systems and creative expression. The industry has evolved from homemade aircraft to full-size heavy-lift drones like the Freefly Alta 8 & Alta X to off-the-shelf systems like the DJI Inspire 3.

I also enjoy working with arm cars and highly technical camera operating setups. I am available for work based in Texas but open to traveling for shortβ€”and long-form projects as a camera operator and second unit DoP.

Being based in Cape Town, South Africa, uniquely positioned me and my career from 2014 to 2020 until the COVID-19 pandemic, when my now-wife and I decided to move back to the United States. We ultimately chose North County, San Diego, as our next home due to its proximity to Hollywood and the laid-back lifestyle that reminded us of Cape Town.

My time in the entertainment industry led me to filming in the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda for Black Panther, the United Arab Emirates for Sonic The Hedgehog, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia twice for two feature films.

In 2023, we decided to move to Texas for personal reasons. I still take freelance cinematography jobs as they come up, but I have been focusing on growing my consulting business and ShowCal.

β€œIf anyone understands that filmmaking is a problem-solving process and who knows how to solve them, it’s Rob.
He is confident and positive, with a great personality and a sense of humor. He is also a great teacher.”
— Trevor A Brown, SASC
