Reintroducing Myself: A Journey Across Continents, Creativity, and Connection
The past few years have been a whirlwind of adventure, change, and growth, and I want to take a moment to share what I've been up to. This is my reintroduction to the world—a story of experiences that have shaped me, my work, and my vision for the future.
From South Africa to Hollywood
For several years, I called Cape Town, South Africa home. Living there was more than just a change of scenery—it was a chance to immerse myself in an entirely new culture, work with creative minds from all over the world, and shape the trajectory of my career. It was in South Africa that I began my journey into aerial cinematography, flying drones and even full-size helicopters to capture stunning visuals. My time in Cape Town uniquely positioned me for opportunities to work in Hollywood and beyond.
I had the privilege of filming in the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda for Black Panther, and twice traveled to Saudi Arabia to film feature films. These projects took me to incredible places and allowed me to be a part of something much bigger—capturing visuals that would ultimately help tell unforgettable stories.
A Pandemic Move and a New Venture
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, like many, I found myself re-evaluating where I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. My wife Cassidy and I made the decision to move back to the USA, settling in North County, San Diego, and then later moving to Texas. It was during this time that the idea for ShowCal truly began to take shape. What started as a tool I built for myself—to manage my career, track jobs, and handle bookings—soon evolved into a platform for others in the entertainment industry. ShowCal is now a trusted workforce management tool for agencies, production companies, and freelancers around the world.
Around the same time, I found myself diving into another passion: smart home consulting. I've always been intrigued by how technology can make our lives easier, and I began helping clients design bespoke smart home systems using Home Assistant, Google Home, Apple Home, and more. It turns out that my love for tinkering with gadgets and finding solutions translated well into a consulting business—one where I could make a tangible difference in people's everyday lives.
Love, Family, and Adventure
But it hasn't all been work. On a personal note, Cassidy and I got married off the coast of South Africa, surrounded by 30 of our closest friends and family. It was an intimate celebration in a place that means so much to both of us—a stone house overlooking the coast, with the waves crashing below. We've also welcomed four incredible dogs into our lives—each of them a rescue, each of them a source of joy and adventure.
Being True to Myself
Now, as I reintroduce myself to the internet, I want to share all facets of who I am. I’ve spent years navigating different industries, from entertainment to e-commerce to smart home consulting, and I've loved every minute of it. I’m not afraid to share the full picture—the wins, the challenges, the passions that make me who I am. I hope to connect with others who are also striving to make a meaningful impact on the world.
So here I am—a creative, a builder, an entrepreneur, a cinematographer, a dog lover, and someone who is eager to contribute to projects that matter. Let’s build something great together.
